PART 2- DISCOVERY (PS. 31:9-10)

9 Have mercy upon me, O Lord, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly. 10 For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.

Step 4: is where we search and take a fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

STEP 4 STUDY GUIDE

Talk

To begin the study, each person answers these questions:

·       What are you thankful for?

·       What is causing you stress?

·       Who needs our help? How can this group help them?

Look Back (session 2+)

·       Retell story from the previous meeting.

·       What did you do differently because of this story?

·       Who did you tell and what was the reaction?

Step 4: is where we search and take a fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

Lamentations 3:40 Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the Lord.

Matthew 19:16-26  16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? 17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. 18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, 19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 20 The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? 21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. 22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. 23 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. 24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. 25 When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? 26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

Here is where we discover what we have done wrong, where, and to whom we did those things in our lives. We will thoroughly examine:

1. Events and circumstances that caused us pain, great or small

2. How and why we developed certain negative, unhealthy thought patterns

3. When we began acting in out-of-control or coping behaviors

4. What good has been in our life, where God has been

5. What good character traits, habits, talents, and skills we do have

6. Where we want to go from here, who we want to be, what we want to do

John 3:16-17 says, 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

God loves you. It is his deepest desire to bring you into His spiritual family not only to save you eternally, but also to heal your deepest wounds. He will guide your every step if you keep your heart open and let Him. If you work the steps, you will be moved out of your anger, fear, sadness, guilt, shame and pain. God will see that you have anything you need in this process.

In John 5:5-6, Jesus saw a man and knew he had been ill for 38 years. Jesus asked him, “Wilt thou be made whole?”

What would your answer be if He were asking you?
