Using The Discovery Bible Study Method (for each step)
AND 12 Step Method in a powerful combination!
Each "step" is a session using the Discovery Bible Study Method, while also using a complete 12 step recovery method. The Discover Bible Study is used worldwide. The unique but simple approach has been effective in prisons, communist or Muslim countries, or even in "self-study" situations. The primary reason it is so effective is that God remains the authority, while someone listens to Him through His Word. There are some simple rules, procedures and questions, which are all identical in every session (or step).
This particular course is designed to assist those who are addicts. It can be for any addiction, but was patterned (the 12 step portion) after AA and many other similar recovery programs.
Step 1 will encourage us to admit that we are powerless without Jesus working in and through us. We admit that we are powerless over our addictions and compulsive behaviors. That our lives have become unmanageable.
Step 2 helps us to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
Step 3 compels us to make a decision.
Step 4: is where we search and take a fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
Step 5: is where we admit to God, to ourselves, and to others the specific nature of our wrongs.
Step 6: is where we are completely ready to ask God to remove all of these defects of character.
Step 7: is where we humbly pray for Him to remove our shortcomings.
Step 8: is where we make a list of all people we have offended, and are willing to make amends to them all.
Step 9: is where we make direct amends to offended people whenever it is possible, except when doing so might injure someone.
Step 10 will show us how to cleanse ourselves from within every day.
Step 11 will help a Christian to grow steadily and gradually more aware of God’s presence in his life.
Step 12 will instruct us that, to keep the healing and freedom we’ve received, we must pass on this message to help and to serve others. We need to also practice these principles in all of our affairs.
